Encrypted connections

Pages and uploads are sent over HTTPS, so the connection between your device and LinearFiles is encrypted while your files are in transit.

Private, hard-to-guess links

Each transfer gets its own unique link. Anyone who has the link can download the file until it expires, so share it only with the people you intend to receive it. Transfers are not listed anywhere on the site.

Stored in cloud storage

Files are kept in Amazon Simple Storage Service (S3), a managed cloud storage service, rather than on the web server's own disk.

Automatic deletion after 4 days

Every link expires 4 days after upload. A background job removes expired files from storage, and a link opened after it expires shows an "expired" page instead of the file.

Protected browser sessions

Every page is sent with security headers. They limit which scripts a page can run, stop other websites from embedding LinearFiles to trick you into clicking, and stop browsers from guessing a file's type.

Rate limits

Starting uploads, submitting the contact form and signing in to the admin area are rate-limited to slow down misuse.
